# Bypass POS or Referrer

Canonical page: https://docs.sealmetrics.com/platform/tracking-and-attribution-settings/bypass-pos-or-referrer

When a user completes a purchase through a **POS (Point of Sale)** or external payment page (Stripe, PayPal, Redsys…), they temporarily leave your site.
When they return to your **thank-you page**, Sealmetrics may detect this as a new session and attribute the referrer incorrectly.

This causes conversions to appear as coming from:
❌ *payment* instead of
✔️ the original source (Google Ads, Facebook, Email, etc.)

---

## How Bypass POS / Referrer Works

You can configure Sealmetrics to **ignore specific referrers**, ensuring that once users return from a payment domain, the system keeps the original traffic source instead of overwriting it.

---

## How to Set It Up

**Info:**
Payment/POS domains are excluded by registering them as **passthrough referrers** through the **Sealmetrics API** — there is no dashboard screen for this. See the [Passthrough Referrers API reference](/api/passthrough-referrers) for the complete schema.

**Check whether you need to do anything first.** Sealmetrics ships with a built-in list of common payment gateways that applies to every account, so the most standard checkout flows are already covered. If your payment domain still appears as a referral in your reports, it isn't on that list and you need to register it yourself — see [Built-in vs. account-specific](/platform/tracking-and-attribution-settings/passthrough-referrers#built-in-vs-account-specific).

Entries you register are scoped to **one account**. If you run several accounts — one per market, brand or property — register the domain for each of them; it is not inherited when you create a new account.

Register the payment domain for your account with your API key:

```bash
curl -X POST "https://my.sealmetrics.com/api/v1/passthrough-referrers?account_id=YOUR_ACCOUNT_ID" \
  -H "X-API-Key: sm_your_key" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "domain": "payments.example-psp.com",
    "utm_source": "example-psp",
    "service_name": "Payment Gateway"
  }'
```

Repeat for each payment domain your checkout flow passes through. You can list, update, deactivate, or delete entries through the same API — see the [Passthrough Referrers API reference](/api/passthrough-referrers).

For the full concept and behavior details, see [Passthrough Referrers](/platform/tracking-and-attribution-settings/passthrough-referrers).

## Why This Matters

This avoids:
- Incorrect attribution to *payment*
- Lost ROAS visibility
- Broken marketing funnels

You keep the **real traffic source** intact.
